—Reports—
-International Events-
1. Saudi-Houthi cross-border strikes: On Oct. 13, the Saudi-led coalition struck Houthi-linked fuel depots and sites near Sanaa and other locations in Yemen (coalition described them as supporting missile/drone operations). Houthis responded with missiles/drones toward Riyadh, Dammam, and other areas; some were intercepted, with debris causing limited injuries/damage in residential zones. (AlJazeera)

2. Iran reports cargo ship sunk by mine in Strait of Hormuz: Iran stated a cargo ship sank after striking a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz; few further details released. Separately, Iran executed a man accused of an “armed operation” supporting exiled former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. (AP)

3. Russian strikes hit Ukrainian energy infrastructure: Overnight Oct. 13–14, Russian missiles and drones struck energy and other facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and additional regions, killing at least three in Kyiv and leaving 600,000+ without power (damage to dozens of sites). Ukraine reported intercepting 4 of 39 missiles and 115 of 128 drones; Russia claimed strikes on power plants and military-linked targets. (Reuters) (AC- We might infer that Trump’s announcement of an energy-related truce is not quite accurate.)

-US Events-
1. Kimberly Guilfoyle resignation as U.S. Ambassador to Greece: On Oct. 13, the White House stated it had asked Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign following reports of alleged misconduct, including texts seeking $100,000 to cover a credit-card bill in exchange for access and other gift/influence claims. Trump said he “didn’t like what I read” and had not spoken to her; Guilfoyle posted on X denying the allegations and saying she would defend her reputation. Formal resignation followed. (CNN)

2. Saudi national OpenAI engineer arrested over hidden recording device: On Oct. 13, DOJ charged Abdulrahman Alfozan (35, Saudi national, OpenAI engineer since July 2025) with intercepting oral communications after a device (concealed in toilet paper, plugged into a TV USB in an executive conference room) was found Sept. 30. OpenAI said it used its models to identify him, fired him, and referred the matter to the FBI; no indication of model weights, source code, or customer data exfiltration. Device data encrypted; second similar device found in his bag. (Reuters) (AC-So how exactly did the AI models indentify him so quickly?)

3. ATF Director Denies Existence Of Gun Registry, Warns That Future Admins Could Develop One: Gun Owners of America and members of Congress are renewing their call for the ATF to destroy approximately 1.4 billion ATF records that they call an illegal gun registry. (ZeroHedge)

-Regulatory and Legal-
1. U.S. Treasury fines Bank of America $1.2 billion: On Oct. 13, FinCEN assessed a $1.2 billion penalty against Bank of America for willful BSA/AML failures, including not reporting $5 billion in suspicious activity (with >$1 billion tied to national-security risks such as Chinese money-laundering networks and southwest-border illicit finance). (Reuters)

-CBDCs/World Currencies/Strategic Reserves-
1. US government Bitcoin holdings fall to 328,372 BTC in 2026: Government holdings have reportedly fallen by approximately 1,635 BTC in 2026, leaving an estimated 328,372 BTC on the books as of early October. None of these coins were bought. The government’s entire Bitcoin position comes from law enforcement seizures and forfeitures. (CryptoBriefing)

-Institutional Concerns-

Binance Is Shutting Down Its Bitcoin Mining Pool After Six Years: Binance will discontinue Binance Pool, Pool Savings, Cloud Mining, Transaction Accelerator and related features at 07:00 UTC on Nov. 10. Miners must point their hardware to another pool before the cutoff, and Pool Savings users must redeem their positions before the service ends. The closure follows Binance’s July shutdown of its exchange NFT service and its June push into U.S. stocks and tokenized equities. (Decrypt)

2. Strive Buys $280 Million in Bitcoin, Its Largest Purchase in Months: The Nasdaq-listed asset manager bought the Bitcoin at an average of about $84,500 during a rough week for the market, lifting its total stash to 32,773 BTC. (Decrypt)

-Technology and Science-
1. AI Researchers Are Smoking Cigarettes to Prove AI Will Cure Cancer, Says Palantir Exec: Nothing says “I trust the future of medicine” quite like lighting a Marlboro and waiting for the chatbot to fix your lungs. That is the habit Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar says is spreading among AI researchers, who have supposedly started smoking cigarettes to prove how confident they are that AI will cure cancer. He also invoked Pascal’s idea of a god-shaped hole in every human heart, which he suggested some of these researchers are filling with a machine god called AGI. (Decrypt) (AC- A sign of the times.)
