Drones struck two merchant ships in Bulgaria’s Black Sea exclusive economic zone overnight into 13 October; one sank and one crew member was rescued from it, while the Maltese-flagged, Ukrainian-owned Chelsea 3 (15 crew: 7 Ukrainian, 8 Azerbaijani) was hit by three aerial drones, with all crew rescued and five treated for minor injuries. (Reuters)

2. North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea on 12 October; South Korean and Japanese authorities reported one flying more than 900 km (and another shorter range), with assessments of two missiles. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs linked it to a response to Seoul’s recent hypersonic glide vehicle test. (Reuters/Yonhap)

3. The EU Council adopted its largest-ever set of Russia-related listings yesterday, adding 1,569 individuals and entities tied to the military-industrial complex, focused on suppliers of components for missiles, UAVs, and aircraft. The package targets firms with combined annual turnover of at least €20 billion employing more than 250,000 people; more than half relate to ballistic-missile production chains. Asset freezes and entry bans apply. (EEAS)

4. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated there was very little doubt that Iran was behind a plot targeting a UK air base (RAF Fairford) used by US forces; seven men had been released on bail without charges. (NPR)

-US Events-
1. Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant on the Washington, DC-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on 12 October as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. DOJ confirmed the warrant and HSI role; agents were observed removing boxes. Omar stated she was unharmed and described the action as political intimidation targeting enemies; administration officials have previously referenced scrutiny of her family’s immigration paperwork (which she denies). No charges announced. (AP)

2. Kamala Harris ‘Lays Groundwork’ for 2028 Campaign: Former Vice President Kamala Harris is laying the groundwork for a third presidential campaign, speaking with major donors, hiring staff, and traveling to battleground states. (Breitbart)

3. Pentagon, Raytheon sign $6.3B deal to replenish US missile interceptor supply: The $6.3 billion, 5-year contract, which provides two additional option years, will see Raytheon provide the Defense Department with a continuous supply of Standard Missile-3 Block IB interceptors manufactured primarily in Tucson, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama. (MilitaryTimes)

-Regulatory and Legal-
1. UK Moves Closer to Keeping $5B Bitcoin Haul After High Court Ruling: The UK government’s chances of keeping a 61,000 BTC haul seized from convicted fraudster Zhimin Qian have improved after the High Court in London ruled on Monday that Chinese law should govern victims’ claims to the coins. -Economic Indicators-
1. US Small Business Sentiment Deteriorates Further: The US NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell to 97.9 in September 2026, the lowest in three months, from 98.7 in August and roughly in line with forecasts of 98. The Index declined mainly as businesses became less optimistic about future conditions and fewer firms considered it a good time to expand. (TradingEconomics)

2. Treasury Yields Fall: The US 10-year Treasury yield fell 5bps to 5.19% on Tuesday, retreating slightly from the 24-year highs touched earlier this month, as traders returned from a long weekend amid rising safe-haven demand and falling oil prices. (TradingEconomics)

3. US Stocks End Mixed, With Tech Shares Under Pressure: The S&P 500 closed little changed and the Nasdaq fell 0.4%, while the Dow gained 196 points on Monday. Tech led the declines, while energy, communication services and consumer staples outperformed. (TradingEconomics)

-Security Concerns-
1. A cyberattack overnight into 12 October remotely forced defrost cycles on refrigeration controllers at hundreds of French supermarket stores, raising temperatures to 50°C for hours, spoiling fresh/frozen goods, and causing some fires. Paris prosecutors opened an investigation into the attack. (Reuters)

2. Japan Declares First Cyberspace Emergency as AI Turns Ransomware Into Carpet Bombing: Japan’s top cybersecurity official declared a cyberspace emergency on October 9, 2026, after an AI-accelerated wave of ransomware and data breaches compromised the personal information of more than 14 million citizens and cascaded a single cloud-provider attack through 495 businesses in a matter of hours. 1. Now Accepting Bitcoin: Moonflower Coffee and 300+ Colorado Bitcoin Merchants: Delicious Bitcoin Latte at Moonflower, Steak and Eggs at Butcher Block Cafe, and Navigating 300+ Colorado Bitcoin Merchants. Moonflower Coffee had their Square terminal had native Bitcoin settings toggled on from the encouragement of local bitcoiners. Instead of selecting the “Pay with Bitcoin” option myself, I asked the barista to enable it on her side. That led to a nice 30-second conversation about Bitcoin before I enjoyed my Black Sesame Mocha Latte. (BitcoinMag)

-Bitcoin Sentiment-
1. Fear(0)/Greed(100) Index: 57/100 (Down 12 pts)

Analyst Comments (AC): The @BitcoinMagazine article above highlights the efforts of the author to test and encourage Bitcoin POS adoption and basic literacy of Bitcoin. If only a portion of us bitcoiners continuously practiced this style of ‘encouragement’ and sharing, is may have an outsized impact on true Bitcoin adoption as a medium of exchange.
