—Reports—
-International Events-
1. Fire at London electrical substation closes Heathrow Airport: Heathrow Airport said the fire at the substation, which supplies power to the airport, has caused a “significant power outage” and the airport is expected to be closed until 11:59 p.m. local time on Friday night. “Due to a power outage in the London Heathrow area, London Heathrow Airport is currently closed,” British Airways said. “As a result, customers due to travel from Heathrow on Friday are advised not to travel to the airport until further notice. (ABC)
2. Drones Take Over Fighting in Much of Ukraine War: The astoundingly rapid evolution of drone warfare in the Ukraine war has led to some engagements where almost all of the fighting was performed by autonomous and semi-autonomous machines, both on the ground and in the air – bringing the world closer to the long-feared state of “hyperwar,” where human commanders might not be able to plan and communicate quickly enough to control their machines. (Breitbart)
3. Yemen targets Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, USS Truman in Red Sea: “The YAF missile force carried out a military operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport in the occupied Jaffa region with a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile. This operation successfully achieved its goal,” the YAF said in a statement. “Yemeni forces also downed their 16th US MQ-9 Reaper drone, worth millions of dollars, since last year.”, Yemeni spokesman said. -US Events-
1. Trump signs executive order aimed at dismantling U.S. Department of Education: The Education Department manages the $1.6 trillion federal student loan portfolio and has been reduced from 4,133 to 2,183 employees due to recent layoffs. (GroundNews) (AC-In 1981, President Reagan attempted the same thing, but was ultimately unsuccessful in the attempt. This recent significant effect will likewise be challenged.)
2. Tesla Attacks Lead to Legal Action and Heightened Security: Recent attacks on Tesla properties across the U.S. have escalated, involving arson with Molotov cocktails and gunfire. Three individuals have been charged with these acts, facing up to 20 years in prison. Tesla has responded by increasing security measures, including activating Sentry Mode on all store vehicles. (X)
3. ‘Independent’ Anti-Russia Outlet Meduza Faces Collapse After US Funding Slashed: After fervently denying that they relied on financial support from the US government, the supposedly “independent” Russian language paper Meduza has been thrown into existential crisis following the Trump administration’s pause on foreign development assistance. (ZeroHedge)
4. Greenpeace Ordered to Pay $660 Million in Dakota Access Pipeline Case: Energy Transfer Partners won a lawsuit against Greenpeace, resulting in a jury awarding them hundreds of millions of dollars in damages related to protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. (GroundNews)
-Regulatory and Legal-
1. Pakistan to Legalize Crypto, Aims to Attract Global Investment: With millions of Pakistanis already engaged in crypto, the government seeks to establish clear guidelines to support growth and innovation. The new crypto advisor in Pakistan sees U.S. President Trump’s pro-crypto stance as a turning point for the industry, arguing that global economies, including Pakistan, must embrace digital assets to remain competitive. (BitcoinCom)
2. Australian Government Outlines New Regulations for Crypto, Aims to Tackle Debanking: The Australian government, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, has introduced a new regulatory framework for digital assets to enhance industry certainty and address consumer protection and market integrity risks. Major crypto platforms will need an Australian Financial Services Licence, while smaller firms not in financial services are exempt. (Decrypt)
3. Bitcoin and Dogecoin Mining Don’t Violate Securities Law as SEC Gives OK to Proof-of-Work: The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission clarified that proof-of-work mining, like Bitcoin’s, does not violate U.S. securities law. The SEC stated that mining operations do not need to register as they do not involve the sale of securities. (Decrypt)
-CBDCs/World Currencies/Strategic Reserves-
1. ECB reiterates need for a digital euro to counter influence of dollar-based stablecoins: Yesterday ECB President Christine Lagarde told lawmakers in Brussels that Europe must accelerate progress on retail and wholesale versions of the digital euro to strengthen financial sovereignty and reduce external vulnerabilities. (CryptoSlate) (AC-Centralized control will not go quietly into the night.)
-Institutional Concerns-
1. Eric Trump Joins Metaplanet’s Board to ‘Drive Bitcoin Adoption’: Metaplanet Inc. has appointed Eric F. Trump to its Strategic Advisory Board for his business expertise and passion for Bitcoin. With a recent purchase of 150 BTC, the company aims to become one of the world’s largest Bitcoin Treasury companies. (Decrypt) (AC-With Metaplanet being a Japanese company, this could have interesting ramifications on US-Japan relations and/or possible conflict of interest issues.)
-Economic Indicators-
1. US 10-Year Yield Stabilizes as Fed Outlook Mulled: The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note steadied around 4.25% on Friday, recovering from a brief dip in the previous session. Investors assessed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s remarks, in which he emphasized that the central bank is in no rush to cut interest rates further following its dovish pause this week. On Wednesday, the Fed left rates unchanged but signaled two potential rate cuts later this year. (TradingEconomics)
-Security Incidents and Concerns-
1. The NYPD is sending more drones to 911 calls, but privacy advocates don’t like the view: City officials say the so-called drones as first responders (DFR) program is making New York safer, but civil liberties and privacy advocates argue that police have not been transparent about operations that allow law enforcement sweeping surveillance capabilities that could easily be abused. DFRs can stay aloft for up to 40 minutes and travel for miles with a remote operator controlling their movements, according to Skydio, the manufacturer of one aerial device the New York Police Department (NYPD) uses for the program. (TheRecord)
-Technology and Science-
1. USAID could follow Elon Musk-led DOGE unit’s idea to adopt blockchain technology under Trump aides’ proposal: A section of the proposal on creating “modernized, performance-based procurement” processes suggests “all distributions would be secured and traced via blockchain technology to radically increase security, transparency and traceability.” However, it is not clear how exactly this would work and what type of blockchain technology would be used — be that a public, private or hybrid model. (TheBlock)
2. Polymarket is 90% Accurate in Predicting World Events: Research shows that Polymarket is 90% accurate in predicting how events will occur one month out, and 94% four hours before the event occurs. (CoinDesk) (AC-It’s well-known in intelligence circles that crowd-based, incentivized, forecasting markets are relatively accurate in their predictions. Polymarket is a useful tool in this regard.)
