—Reports—
-International Events-
1. France protests and riots: Nationwide demonstrations over living costs, fuel prices, and public services (including schools) drew more than 500,000 participants on October 17–18, with police reporting roughly 2,000–2,400 arrests, nearly 1,000 officers injured (several seriously), one protester death from cardiorespiratory issues, and one officer death in Nantes. Violence included the arson of Limoges’s 19th-century town hall, looting of shops in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and other cities, and continued smaller clashes on October 18–19. President Emmanuel Macron addressed the nation, condemned “unbridled” violence by ultra-left groups and criminals while distinguishing legitimate demands, declined Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez’s resignation offer, and pledged accountability without declaring a state of emergency. (Reuters)

2. Dozens Arrested After Multicultural Riots Outside of Milan’s Duomo Cathedral: Stones, smoke bombs, fireworks, and Molotov cocktails were the weapons of choice for the youth hoodlums that descended upon Milan, leaving some 141 police officers injured during the so-called cost of living protests on Saturday. The wire service noted that there was also a heavy contingent of “second-generation migrants” involved in the riots. (Breitbart) (AC-Other countries, including Brazil, India, Albania, Spain, Argentina, and Beligum are also reporting similiar protests. Could they be linked?)

3. Canadian Forces Base Wainwright fire: A grass fire ignited around 16:00 local time on October 18 during live-munitions training by Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry at CFB Wainwright, Alberta. Strong winds shifted the fire, which advanced roughly 1 km in 30–60 seconds and overtook soldiers, killing four and injuring 39 (at least 19 critical). Prime Minister Mark Carney called it one of the worst peacetime tragedies for Canadian forces on domestic soil; officials ruled out terrorism or oil/gas infrastructure as the cause, which remains under investigation. (BBC) (AC-This is the official story, while speculations are much more detailed.)

4. Ukraine reports Russian strikes on energy infrastructure: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on October 19 that Russia launched ballistic missiles and drones against energy infrastructure, damaging more than 10 facilities and leaving over half a million people without power, and that Kyiv received no early warning from partner countries. Separate reports noted Ukrainian drone activity affecting Russian sites including St. Petersburg. (AP) (AC-With all the energy targeting, it’ll be interesting to see the effects on the population and warfare efforts.)

-US Events-
1. Obama calls Trump administration’s investigation into Ilhan Omar ‘appalling’: “The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president,” Obama wrote on social media. (CNN)

2. 2 dead, 11 injured after woman in truck drives through soccer game in Wichita, Kansas: Two people, including a 6-year-old boy, were killed and 11 others injured after a truck drove through a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday afternoon, police said, in what officials called a “heartbreaking” incident that authorities are still investigating. “We know what happened, but now we’re working very hard to find out why it happened, and we’re not there yet,” Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan told reporters. -Institutional Concerns-
1. ‘We found room for more orange’: Michael Saylor’s Strategy buys another 267 bitcoin for $22 million: Strategy bought another 267 BTC for $22.1 million between Oct. 12 and Oct. 18, with its total holdings reaching 848,517 BTC. (TheBlock)

2. MSCI To Move Forward With Proposal That Could Exclude Strategy From Index: The index maker said Thursday that it “will implement the proposal to define and classify non-operating companies as ineligible for inclusion in the MSCI Global Investable Market Indexes.” If Strategy does get removed from the index, it would mean that fewer institutional investors can or will hold the stock. (BItcoinMag)

-Economic Indicators-
1. Brent Flirts With $110 Before Reversing: Brent crude futures briefly tagged $109.99 a barrel in overnight trading before retreating from five-month highs. International Energy Agency reinforced Goldman Sachs energy analyst Nikhil Bhandari’s warning that there is no quick relief at the pump, as the refining crisis, particularly in diesel, will persist well into next year. (ZeroHedge)

2. US 10-Year Yield Slips on Warsh Comments: The US 10-year Treasury yield slipped to around 5.06% on Monday, hovering near four-week lows as dovish signals from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh prompted traders to dial back bets on an October rate hike. (TradingEconomics)

3. Week Ahead – Oct 19th: Geopolitical developments in Ukraine and the Middle East will continue to dictate markets as global oil supply tightens and inflation metrics trend higher. The earnings season will also gather pace, with Meta and Tesla reporting the latest signals on the volatile AI trade, while results are also due from P&G, Netflix, GE Aerospace, SAP, and Texas Instruments. (TradingEconomics)

-Security Concerns-
1. Sam Altman’s World Takes Proof-of-Human IDs to Banks, Citing $40B AI Fraud Risk: World, the identity project co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched World ID for banking and finance to help institutions confirm that real humans are behind transactions. Bain Capital, Pantera Capital, VanEck Funds, OpenExchange and Outtake are design partners, World said, pointing to forecasts of rising AI-enabled fraud. Banks could use the proofs to require a verified human to approve ACH and wire transfers, or to recover an account, without collecting documents or storing other personal data, World said. (Decrypt) (AC- AI attacks may just be the vector to force super-centralized ID control worldwide.)

2. Palantir Controls EU Spy Agency Data: US Law Gives Washington Back-Door Access: According to the 19-outlet cross-border investigation, two major intelligence agencies have concluded the risks are structurally irresolvable. The problem is not a bad contract clause. It is a US law called the CLOUD Act, which requires any US-connected cloud provider to hand over stored data to American authorities when served with a valid warrant. The CLOUD Act is not going away. US law is not subject to EU amendment. The only structural resolution available to European governments is the one France and Germany have begun: sovereign ownership of the entire software stack, from the data pipeline to the analytical layer. (TechTimes)

-Technology and Science-
1. Russian Military Satellite Stalks Ukraine-Linked Spy Satellite in Orbit, Closing In to Just 5 Km: A Russian military satellite has approached within approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) of a commercial radar satellite operated by ICEYE, a company providing satellite imagery used by Ukraine’s military. To my knowledge this is the first LEO rendezvous of two active satellites where the owner of one of the sats did not give approval,” (United24) (AC-The first ‘known’ space warfare interaction, with outcomes and intentions not fully known.)

2. Apple iPhone Duo preorder sell-out: Pre-orders for Apple’s first foldable iPhone Duo (starting at $1,999) opened October 16 and sold out within minutes, with shipping estimates shifting to January 25, 2027, for all configurations. (Bloomberg)

-Bitcoin Community
1. Sazmining Now Sells Jack Dorsey’s Proto Immersion Hashboards: Sazmining announced Thursday that it is now selling Proto’s immersion hashboards directly to individual and institutional buyers through its mining-as-a-service platform. Each hashboard delivers roughly 200 TH at around 15 J/TH, and buyers own them outright while @Sazmining handles deployment, monitoring and maintenance at a US facility. Mining rewards go straight to the owner’s wallet. (BitcoinMag)
