—Reports—
-International Events-
1. Ukraine resumes Russian refinery strikes amid US tensions: Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was ending a three-day pause on strikes against Russian oil refineries, citing continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilians. He criticized reduced US intelligence sharing and Starlink/Starshield restrictions (which Elon Musk attributed to US military/government control); a Ryazan-region refinery was subsequently struck. (CNN)
2. Houthi missile attack on Yemeni presidential palace kills five: Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said that the prime minister and other ministers were unhurt when five ballistic missiles hit al-Maashiq Palace. (BBC)
-US Events-
1. Oregon elementary school shooting: On October 15, 2026, a 16-year-old male Bend resident forced entry into Silver Rail Elementary School by shooting through locked doors and killed three children (ages 5, 8, and 11) and one teacher with a long gun. An armed community member followed him inside, engaged him, and fatally shot him before police arrived; a 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher were critically injured. (CNN) (AC-Missing details are that the police arrived within 3 minutes and 4 people were still killed. The school also had a no-guns whatsover policy.)
2. Trump cancels Nidal Hasan execution livestream: President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the December 3, 2026, firing-squad execution of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan (convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 and wounded 32) would not be livestreamed, reversing a prior Pentagon plan under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Only immediate families of victims may attend in person; the decision followed bipartisan and public criticism. (NYTimes)
3. DOJ Subpoenas Ilhan Omar’s Relatives in Immigration Investigation: Federal agents investigating Representative Ilhan Omar, (D-MN), have issued subpoenas to some relatives as officials scour her family’s history for evidence of fraud and false statements in immigration paperwork. A sister of Ms. Omar’s, Sahra Noor, received a subpoena, as did at least one other member of her family circle. (Breitbart)
-Regulatory and Legal-
1. Russia Will Soon Ban Peer-to-Peer Bitcoin Trading, Central Bank Confirms: Russians have until July 1, 2027 to buy and sell crypto directly with each other. After that, every trade runs through a broker or exchange approved by the Bank of Russia. The regulator also says individuals cannot move crypto from a digital account to their own non-custodial wallet, meaning a wallet where the owner holds the private keys instead of a company. Lending crypto is also off-limits for ordinary users: only brokers, trustees, exchange organizations, and clearing houses can act as the lender in a crypto loan. (Decrypt) (AC-This is the future in many countries. ‘Black markets’ reached thier pinnacle in the former USSR, why not start a new one in the same territory.)
-CBDCs/World Currencies/Strategic Reserves-
1. US Hoovers up Bitcoin While the World Runs on Its Digital Dollars: America is accumulating bitcoin while exporting dollar-pegged stablecoins to everyone else, according to a new Chainalysis report. According to the data, institutions this year have been buying bitcoin while retail largely sells. “The rest of the world is pivoting to a digital dollar because it meets a need that American users don’t share. Meanwhile, Americans are leaning harder on bitcoin as an infinitely scarce store of value.” (BitcoinMag)
-Institutional Concerns-
1. Bitcoin’s Volatility Has Fallen Within S&P 500 Ranks: “As the asset has matured, with deeper liquidity, broader institutional participation, and more regulated access venues, its price swings have narrowed considerably from the extremes of its early years,” the Grayscale’s head of research, Zach Pandl, wrote. (BitcoinMag)
2. Bitcoin Google Searches Hit a 6-Year Low. Willy Woo Calls It a Buy Signal: Google searches for “bitcoin” have fallen to about 14 on a 100-point scale, their weakest reading in roughly six years. On-chain analyst Willy Woo says that kind of silence has historically marked the best time to buy. (BeInCrypto)
-Economic Indicators-
1. US Exports Prices Rise Most in 5 Months: US export prices rose 2.2% in September, the largest monthly increase since April, accelerating from a 1.2% gain in August and well above expectations of 1%. (TradingEconomics)
2. US Treasury Yields Tick Higher, but Post Weekly Decline: The US 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 5.11% on Friday, following an 11bps decline in the previous session, but remained down around 14bps for the week. (TradingEconomics)
3. Warsh Comments Boost Bets on Fed Rate Hold in October: Fed Chair Warsh refrained from signalling the outcome of this month’s FOMC meeting, but said hotter-than-expected inflation had not altered his assessment of the US economy, prompting traders to further scale back expectations of an October rate hike. (TradingEconomics)
4. US Stocks Rebound as Chipmaker Selloff Eases: US stock indices closed higher on Thursday, rebounding from earlier losses as the selloff in AI infrastructure stocks eased. The S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Nasdaq closed near flat, and the Dow added 557 points. (TradingEconomics)
-Security Concerns-
1. Google demonstrates quantum computing breakthrough as observers weigh Q-day implications: Google Quantum AI announced Thursday that it has experimentally shown that “magic state cultivation” works on its Willow processor, demonstrating what could be a practical solution to one of quantum computing’s most severe bottlenecks. Meanwhile, the crypto industry has been working to develop and adopt post-quantum cryptographic protections designed to resist attacks from large-scale quantum computers. (TheBlock)
-Technology and Science-
1. Tesla Roadster Pulls Off Mid-Air Kickflip in Livestream Demo: During an October 15 livestream at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas facility, the next-gen Roadster accelerated to 60 mph in 0.81 seconds, jumped over other Teslas, and performed aerial stunts with cold-gas thrusters. Tesla showcased three trims: Performance with suction handling, Thrust for faster acceleration, and invite-only Rocket for short flights seating one. Production starts in 2028 with $50,000 deposits open, though some question everyday practicality amid the widespread awe. (X)
2. SpaceX satellite rival set to be fast-tracked by EU Commission: The European Union is aiming to give speedy antitrust approval to a satellite venture seen as the bloc’s answer to SpaceX after intense talks with its partners Leonardo SpA, Airbus SE and Thales SA. (BNN) (AC-EU does not like Elon.)
